Our Story

Through Allyson's Eyes:
After meeting at a Halloween party in 2017, Friday the 13th quickly became the luckiest day of my life. It took a while for there to be a “first date” but after 4 months, with me having to cancel on him a couple of times last-minute but finally we went to a Pike Formal. It was all so quick I just remember my friends in my apartment hyping me up because I was about to go on a date with Elijah Kanuha! By this time I had thoroughly social media stalked this guy and had a major crush. I think most of my friends could remember the obsession that followed, I just needed to have him in my life. His energy was just so infectious and that smile just melted any troubles away. Fast forward a bit, I moved away for an internship and he used it as an opportunity to visit me to officially ask me to be his girlfriend. We spent that summer on FaceTime every night until I fell asleep. Elijah was the perfect sorority boyfriend, proudly still wearing my Alpha Chi Omega baseball cap everywhere he goes. He also made a great honorary roommate at The Warehouse, the best midnight newspaper delivery driver, and my biggest supporter for big milestones like my first time sidelining for Fox Sports North. Long-distance became a common occurrence for us when I had to move back to Winnipeg after graduating, but then returning to Grand Forks for Grad School we just as quickly became the best pandemic quarantine duo. It felt full circle that we met at a Halloween party where I was dressed in full costume and he was in a nice suit and Elijah proposed on Halloween night, me again in full costume and him looking dapper as ever in a nice suit. I can't wait to spend my Halloween's with him for the rest of my life.

Through Elijah's Eyes:
At a Halloween party packed to the brim with people, I met the love of my life. I would say it was love at first sight, except I couldn’t make out what she looked like under a convincing Wednesday Addams costume, flashing strobe lights, and blaring music. In passing, I complimented her on her costume, and she loved my teeth! The night we met was uneventful beyond that, but curiosity and an attraction for someone willing to put that much effort into a costume led me on my search for “Wednesday Addams.” The next morning I reached out to one of her sorority sisters, Kaylie Hausker, in hopes that I would find my Cinderella. From then on it was an insistent game of phone tag and busy weekends. We were both struggling to find the time to go on a date between our busy schedules as undergrads committed to their studies and extracurriculars. After constant pestering, Allyson reluctantly agreed to be my date to the Pi Kappa Alpha 50th Anniversary Alumni Formal. Since it was our biggest Fraternity event to date, with over 400 guests from all over the country, of course, I had to bring the most beautiful woman I could think of. It was a perfect night! Our first date blossomed into many, many more. We spent the next 3 and half years growing closer to one another while learning each other's triumphs and shortcomings, picking up for one another, and supporting one another every step of the way. Allyson continues to surprise me by growing stronger and more accomplished every day. I love the family we’ve created together and I can’t wait for the day I get to call her my wife.
